Behavioral Guidance on Brushing Teeth and Rinsing With Strawberry Extract To Prevent Dental Caries

Dental caries is one of the most common oral health problems among elementary school children. Lack of knowledge and improper brushing habits are the main causes of caries. This community service activity aims to improve students' dental and oral hygiene behavior through toothbrushing behavior training and introducing herbal strawberry extract mouthwash as a caries prevention measure. The implementation methods include school community empowerment, atmosphere building, and advocacy. The activities take the form of counseling, toothbrushing demonstrations, strawberry extract mouthwash demonstrations, and early caries detection. The results of the activity showed that knowledge in the adequate category (40.4%) increased to the good category (77.9%), while tooth brushing in the adequate category (44.2%) increased to the good category (71%) after counseling and hands-on practice. This program is a concrete effort to support caries prevention from an early age through an educational approach and the use of safe natural ingredients in the school environment. It is hoped that this activity can serve as a model for dental health behavior development in other elementary schools.
