Enhancing student collaboration through PJBL: Analyzing the impact of coal mining on the community at state junior high school 48 Samarinda, Indonesia

Collaboration skills can prepare students to work in teams in future work and social environments. This study aims to examine the ability of student learning collaboration through the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PJBL) model in the analysis of the implications of coal mining for community life at SMPN 45 Samarinda. The research method used is qualitative descriptive research using the Groud Theory approach. The subject of the study was grade VIII students who were involved in a coal mine impact analysis project. The research instruments include observation sheets, questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the implementation of PJBL significantly improves students' collaboration skills. Students showed improvements in various aspects of collaboration, such as communication, teamwork, and task division. In addition, students also develop critical and analytical thinking skills through this project, where they learn to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to coal mine impacts. PJBL also increases student motivation and involvement in the learning process, which can be seen from the results of questionnaires and interviews. The implementation of PJBL has proven to be effective in improving students' collaboration skills and critical thinking skills at SMPN 45 Samarinda. This study suggests that the PJBL model is applied more widely in schools to develop student competencies that are relevant to real life. Further research can be conducted to explore the impact of PJBL on other aspects of learning.
