Training on the Development of Deep Learning-Based Teaching Modules to Strengthen Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at SD Negeri Heuleut 1, Majalengka

This community service program aimed to enhance teachers’ competence in designing Deep Learning-based teaching modules to strengthen Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) at Public School Elementary School Heuleut 1, Majalengka. The program involved 12 elementary school teachers and was implemented through four stages: preparation, implementation, practice and mentoring, and evaluation. The training employed interactive lectures, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and continuous mentoring in teaching module development. The initial needs analysis indicated that teachers’ competencies in designing teaching modules, integrating Deep Learning principles, implementing HOTS-oriented learning, and developing authentic assessments were at moderate to low levels. The results demonstrated a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding, as reflected in the increase in the average score from 58.7 on the pretest to 87.7 on the posttest. Moreover, all participants successfully developed teaching modules that integrated Deep Learning and HOTS principles through problem-solving activities, critical and creative thinking tasks, contextual learning experiences, and collaborative learning strategies. The evaluation further revealed that the participants were well prepared to implement the developed modules in their classroom practices. Overall, the training and mentoring program effectively enhanced teachers’ competence in designing Deep Learning-based teaching modules to strengthen HOTS and support the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in primary schools.
