Abstract

The growing problem of plastic waste in Southeast Asia has environmental and socio-economic impacts in the region, especially in areas involving migrant workers. This study describes the innovation of plastic pyrolysis into oil and a community intervention program with a green marketing approach called From Waste to Worth, in which Indonesian migrant workers in Penang, Malaysia, have been empowered as low-carbon community agents. A participatory action approach was used in this program, which included training in plastic pyrolysis technology, green branding for community micro-enterprises, and community-based digital marketing. The results of the activities show an increase in participants' technical knowledge of plastic pyrolysis, green marketing, and collective environmental awareness. The test results show that plastic waste can be sold as an alternative fuel oil, reflecting environmental sustainability. This initiative helps change the mindset of the migrant community to see plastic waste as a source of sustainable economic and environmental value and as a positive step on the path to environmental sustainability.
