Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen women’s legal Rapid urbanization in Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta has led to increased population density, environmental degradation, and limited availability of green open space, which negatively affects urban environmental quality and community well-being. Green open space plays a crucial role in supporting ecological balance, improving air quality, and enhancing the quality of life in sustainable cities. However, the effectiveness of green open space planning depends not only on government policies but also on community awareness and participation. This community service program aimed to enhance community awareness and capacity regarding the importance of green open space planning to promote a sustainable urban environment. The program was implemented through socialization activities, including educational presentations, interactive discussions, and community engagement sessions involving local residents. An evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in participants’ knowledge and awareness. The results showed a significant improvement in community understanding of the functions, benefits, and importance of green open space in urban spatial planning. Participants also demonstrated increased awareness of their role in supporting environmentally friendly practices within their neighborhoods. Furthermore, the program contributed to strengthening community capacity to participate in sustainable environmental planning initiatives. This community service activity highlights the importance of educational and participatory approaches in promoting sustainable urban development. Strengthening community awareness and capacity can serve as a strategic foundation for supporting green open space planning and achieving long-term urban environmental sustainability.
